Programming Calendar
The Programming Calendar is Pride of Our Footscray’s master scheduling framework documenting the weekly rotation of all recurring events and special programming. It serves as the primary operational document preventing double-booking, maintaining customer touchpoints across all days of the week, and supporting long-term marketing and promotional planning.
Weekly Structure
Pride’s programming follows a deliberate weekly pattern that balances revenue generation, community service, and operational efficiency:
Wednesday Rotation (4-Week Cycle)
The Wednesday schedule rotates through four different formats on a monthly cycle, ensuring consistent Wednesday attendance patterns without listener fatigue:
- Week 1: Art Class — Community visual arts workshop with drink service
- Week 2: Trivia (“Let’s Get Trivial”) — Quiz competition with team play
- Week 3: Comedy (“Pride Comedy”) — Stand-up and sketch comedy showcase
- Week 4: Film Night — Community film screening
Thursday Rotation (Monthly)
Thursday programming rotates through four different formats on a four-week schedule:
- 1st Thursday: Eve Sapphic Night — Lesbian dance party with DJ
- 2nd/3rd Thursday: Lesbian Speed Dating — Structured dating event for sapphic-identified women
- 2nd/3rd Thursday: Gay Kink Night — Adult-focused social and networking event (alternate weeks from speed dating)
- 4th Thursday: Open Night — Casual programming or community event
Friday Rotation (Fortnightly Alternating)
Friday programming alternates between two formats:
Odd Weeks: Drag Bingo — Game-focused drag event with audience participation, the flagship recurring event
Even Weeks: Themed Major Events — Larger audience-draw events including:
- Emo Night
- Taylor Swift night
- Chappell Roan tribute
- Similar celebration nights
Saturday Programming
Historical Model — DJ and club nights with open dancefloor (now undergoing transition)
Current Status (April 2026) — Under Theatre Restaurant Model strategic decision, Saturday is transitioning from nightclub DJ operations to seated theatre restaurant format. Weekend function bookings and special private events may also occupy Saturday slots.
Sunday (Emerging)
Proposed Programming — Sunday Market and Drag Brunch programming is in phased rollout, addressing underutilised Sunday capacity. See Sunday Market and Drag Brunch for development status.
Governance and Management
Owner: Emily Rose (Head of Programming and Promotion)
Planning Horizon: 6 months average scheduling window per Emily’s estimation; however, Mat’s expectation for adequate marketing lead time is 9–12 months for major themed events.
Documentation System: Emily Rose maintains a universal spreadsheet to prevent double-booking conflicts and coordinate with performer availability, vendor scheduling, and promotional timelines.
Booking Coordination: The calendar synchronises with:
- Performer availability (drag queens, comedians, DJs, artists)
- Venue maintenance and cleaning schedules
- Staff capacity and shift planning
- Marketing campaign timelines
- External partner commitments (co-hosted events, guest appearances)
Strategic Purpose
The Programming Calendar serves multiple critical functions:
Revenue Stabilisation — Ensures consistent daily operation and customer touchpoints, preventing revenue collapse from over-reliance on peak weekend trading
Community Relationship Maintenance — Regular recurring events build habit formation and community identity, especially for underperforming time slots (Wednesday, Thursday)
Operational Efficiency — Rotation formats prevent staff fatigue and allow flexible hiring models (e.g., specialist performers booked per-event rather than permanent staff)
Marketing Leverage — Long-range calendar visibility enables promotional campaigns targeting specific audience segments (e.g., sapphic women’s weeks, comedy enthusiasts)
Performer Relationship Management — Regular booking predictability helps Pride maintain relationships with Melbourne’s performer community
Key Facts
- Programming Calendar is NOT a published audience-facing document; it is internal operational reference
- The 4-week Wednesday rotation prevents audience fatigue whilst maintaining weekly programming
- Thursday underperformance is addressed through niche high-engagement programming (speed dating, kink, dance) rather than volume programming
- Friday alternating format balances flagship Drag Bingo revenue with themed event experimentation
- Emily Rose’s spreadsheet is the source of truth — no double-booking or scheduling conflicts should occur if properly maintained
- Advertising lead times may require planning 9–12 months in advance for optimal audience reach
